When is the last time you tried something new? Something out of your comfort zone? Something that might not work but you tried it anyway?
I put a friend on the spot the other night at my husband’s retirement party – sort of blindsided her when I asked her to come up and join the roast to say a few words. Strange as it may seem to some, this friend is my husband’s first wife. We are good friends and I felt it was important that she be a part of such a big celebration. And, of course, I knew she would have GREAT roast material.
And she did. And she was great.
I got a text from her the day after the event – “You always push me out of my comfort zone…just one of the reasons that I love you.”
Trying new things, leaving your comfort zone, is like learning to drive a car. It’s scary but you know you have to do it to reach the end result – transportation. The first several times you do it, it’s terrifying. You may hit a few curbs. You may scare the heck out of yourself (and others.) However, for the most part, you learn from your mistakes and get better each day. Eventually, you don’t even think about it when you get in the car to drive off to work. And if you do have an accident, you learn from that mistake and, more often than not, don’t do it again.
What will you do today? Will you leave your comfort zone today?
